Let's go back about 4 months when child #2 face planted on the hardwood floor. That's right, you heard that right. And yes I was here, and yes I was actually watching her (even though that is what everyone assumes, usually people's first question is to ask where I was). So after face planting because she tripped on a toy while getting her shoes so we could pick her sister up from school and is now bleeding from her mouth and screaming and all I can think is this is not good. Now I have a screaming 5 year old, another child that I have to get from school and then an emergency trip to the dentist. Long story short we ended up losing the first front tooth a week later, we didn't leave child #1 at school that that day, and Mr. Lost got to the dentist in record time...we didn't ask questions on how fast he drove.
Let's now go back 2 months ago when child #1 was riding her scooter hit a bump and face planted on the sidewalk scrapping the heck out of her knee and chipping her front tooth. Don't worry that one was a permanent tooth that we are paying an orthodontist a lot of money to straighten the teeth out and we chip one. And NO, she was not wearing a helmet when this happened. But why is it that that is the first thing people ask. Don't worry that my child can barely walk, looks like a duck and is missing part of her tooth, don't worry about asking how she is feeling, ask if she had a flippin' helmet on! Guess what, there was not a mark anywhere else on her head she did not hit her head she hit her tooth and I never wore a helmet when I was little and I'm just fine...but I am digressing...long story short she healed and things were fine. Oh, and if you are wondering she was at Grandma & Grandpa's house when this happened and yes they both were watching her ride her scooter. We watch our children every day of every minute or at least that is what society tells us to do, but that is another post for another day because I'm digressing again.
So, you can imagine my thoughts when child #2 came down the stairs the other day holding her mouth and bleeding. But she will be fine, she will loose another tooth sooner than we were hoping or expecting but overall, she got over the traumatic event quickly.
So, what lessons have we learned here in the land of the lost? We have learned that my children are both prone to mouth injuries, that we don't ask parents when their child is hurt if they had a damn helmet on, actually child #2's mouth injury this time around was a complete accident, and we can't possibly watch our children every second of everyday. But at the end of the day we all love our children and we keep them the safest that we can. But lord almighty please no more mouth injuries in our house...
