Another day, another tooth

My children have been really getting along this week, I haven't had to bribe them or threaten them, they just have been playing really well together on their own free will...it's actually great to see. So, the other day when child #2 came down the stairs screaming like someone had just broke every bone in her body, (parents you know that scream the one that you know you can't actually ignore the one that you are almost afraid to turn the corner and face the horrible scream of the unknown). I went to the bottom of the stairs to see her holding her mouth and blood coming out, child #1 is coming down right behind her saying it was a complete accident, and all I can honestly think is for the love of god and all that is holy this is the 3rd mouth injury this year alone.

Let's go back about 4 months when child #2 face planted on the hardwood floor. That's right, you heard that right. And yes I was here, and yes I was actually watching her (even though that is what everyone assumes, usually people's first question is to ask where I was). So after face planting because she tripped on a toy while getting her shoes so we could pick her sister up from school and is now bleeding from her mouth and screaming and all I can think is this is not good. Now I have a screaming 5 year old, another child that I have to get from school and then an emergency trip to the dentist. Long story short we ended up losing the first front tooth a week later, we didn't leave child #1 at school that that day, and Mr. Lost got to the dentist in record time...we didn't ask questions on how fast he drove.

Let's now go back 2 months ago when child #1 was riding her scooter hit a bump and face planted on the sidewalk scrapping the heck out of her knee and chipping her front tooth. Don't worry that one was a permanent tooth that we are paying an orthodontist a lot of money to straighten the teeth out and we chip one. And NO, she was not wearing a helmet when this happened. But why is it that that is the first thing people ask. Don't worry that my child can barely walk, looks like a duck and is missing part of her tooth, don't worry about asking how she is feeling, ask if she had a flippin' helmet on! Guess what, there was not a mark anywhere else on her head she did not hit her head she hit her tooth and I never wore a helmet when I was little and I'm just fine...but I am digressing...long story short she healed and things were fine. Oh, and if you are wondering she was at Grandma & Grandpa's house when this happened and yes they both were watching her ride her scooter. We watch our children every day of every minute or at least that is what society tells us to do, but that is another post for another day because I'm digressing again.

So, you can imagine my thoughts when child #2 came down the stairs the other day holding her mouth and bleeding. But she will be fine, she will loose another tooth sooner than we were hoping or expecting but overall, she got over the traumatic event quickly.

So, what lessons have we learned here in the land of the lost? We have learned that my children are both prone to mouth injuries, that we don't ask parents when their child is hurt if they had a damn helmet on, actually child #2's mouth injury this time around was a complete accident, and we can't possibly watch our children every second of everyday. But at the end of the day we all love our children and we keep them the safest that we can. But lord almighty please no more mouth injuries in our house...

Why did God make stupid people?

This is a conversation that I had several years ago with child #1, she is now 8.

We, me and the kids, decided to go out and grab something for dinner, Mr. Lost was working late and the kids and I have a picnic in our bed when he is working late. We pulled out of our neighborhood onto the busy 2 lane road where the speed limig is 45, when people obey it. As we were making our left hand turn we saw a dad and his 2 small cnildren on their bikes (the kids had to be 5 & 7, maybe) riding on the shoulder of the road. Child #1 asked why a dad would be biking with his kids on such a busy road. I said I don't know. Here is where the conversation went.

Child #1 asked, "why did God make stupid people?" I said, "God didn't make stupid people, some people just don't always make the right choices." Child #1 said, "so, then God made stpid people?" "No" I say, "God didn't make stupid people he made everyone the same some people just don't always think before they do things, people make bad decisions, that doesn't have to do with God." Child #1 says, "then God made stupid people" "Yes, honey God made stupid people."

There was no explaining this one. And at 8 years old I'm sure she still thinks God made stupid people. And you know what after all these years I like her way of thinking
.

Why a blog...you don't actually have free time

I have decided to take the plunge of blogging. My husband (Mr. Lost) has been on me to write a book, I however know nothing about writing a book, but nonetheless I will try my hand at this and if nothing else maybe I can make someone else smile.

Our lives are anything from calm, with 2 children, a dog, Mr. Lost who has to go to work (we are still working on becoming independently wealthy), and me, Mama Lost who is trying to keep everyone from actually getting lost somewhere. Our lives are not dull.

So grab some coffee, have a seat, and enjoy the ride through Lost all Around.
